A Multiple Access Protocol with Collision Avoidance and Multi- CTS Candidates for Multi-channel Ad-hoc Networks

چکیده
-The multi-channel technique is a powerful scheme to improve the capacity of wireless network. CSMAC/CA based medium access protocols use carrier sense and RTS-CTS handshake to reduce the collisions of the share channel. In this paper, we propose a new MAC protocol for multi-hop ad hoc networks, which combines the CSMA/CA and Multi-channel techniques. And we call it Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance and Multi-CTS Candidates(MACA-MCC). By round robin searching scheme, MACA-MCC adequately utilizes the limited channels, and makes itself collision free. MACA-MCC uses Multi-CTS Candidates scheme to increase the successful reception of RTS and thus improve the performance. The throughput is studied analytically, and extensive simulations are presented to verify the analysis. Besides, MACA-MCC is well applicable to ad-hoc networks as it follows the widely applied specification of IEEE 802.11. Keywords—CSMA/CA, MAC, multi-channel, ad-hoc

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks
Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
متن کاملCollision Avoidance in Multi-Hop Ad Hoc Networks
Collision avoidance is very important in contentionbased medium access control protocols for multi-hop ad hoc networks due to the adverse effects of hidden terminals. Four-way sender-initiated schemes are the most popular collision-avoidance schemes to date. Although there has been considerable work on the performance evaluation of these schemes, most analytical work is confined to singlehop ad...
متن کاملA Receiver-Initiated Collision-Avoidance Protocol for Multi-Channel Networks
The medium-access control (MAC) protocols for wireless networks proposed or implemented to date based on collision-avoidance handshakes between sender and receiver either require carrier sensing or the assignment of unique codes to nodes to ensure that intended receivers hear data packets without interference from hidden sources. We present and analyze a new collision-avoidance MAC protocol tha...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Modified IEEE 802.11 MAC for Multi-Channel Multi-Hop Ad Hoc Networks
In this paper, the IEEE 802.11 multiple access control (MAC) protocol was modified for use in multi-channel, multi-hop ad hoc networks through the use of a new channel-status indicator. In particular, in the modified protocol, the RTS/CTS dialogue is exchanged on the common access control channel and data packets are transmitted on a selected traffic channel. We have evaluated the improvement d...
متن کاملMulti-channel Medium Access Control Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey
Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. Hence, using multiple channels can significantly ...
